Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Trials and tribulations were not new to Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary. Even before Abraham Lincoln was shot dead there were so many losses and disappointments. They lost their son, Eddie at the age of three. When Abraham Lincoln became the President of America, he lost his son, Villie who was eleven years old then.
Having lost two of her children Lincoln Mary was at
her culmination of sorrows. Though she was the first lady of America she could
not perform her day to day duties. She had to spend many days on bed.
Consolation came to Mary in a very strange way. Mary
Lincoln used to carry a basket full of fruits and flowers to visit the injured
soldiers in the hospital. Her action of keeping fruits and flowers near the
pillows of the wounded soldiers gave them some kind of comfort and happiness.
She used to spend time with them by writing letters for them and reading books
with them. This action not only gave comfort to the wounded soldiers but gave
her a lot of strength to live a victorious life.
So let us not get deeply immersed in our sorrows and
allow the devil to destroy our life. We must find ways and means to come out of
our sorrows and help those who are experiencing more difficulties and losses
than us. Then our loving God will console us and give us victory in our life.
